Film Review: Predestination

Predestination is a science-fiction time-travel movie from a duo of up-and-coming Australian directors, the Spierig brothers. Set across a period of 50 years, it follows a Temporal Agent (Ethan Hawke) as he journeys through time on the tail of a criminal who has continually eluded him.

Film Review: The Inbetweeners 2

Everyone's favourite bus wankers are back for second spell on the big screen - and this time, Will, Jay, Neil and Simon are knee-deep in clunge Down Under. Full of sun, sea and lots of sex, The Inbetweeners 2 is a fun continuation of the series - if you're a fan.

Casting Call: Uncharted

I read the other week that Sony are ploughing ahead with development on an Uncharted movie, with a proposed release date of June 10 2016. Seeing as Uncharted is quite possibly the best PlayStation exclusive game ever (maybe except for The Last of Us), I'm pretty pumped. I love Uncharted

And whilst video game adaptations are hit and miss, Uncharted is perfect for the silver screen. It's as cinematic as video games come. Which is why I really, really don't want to see it get f**ked up. And hearing that Mark Wahlberg is attached to play Nathan Drake makes me skin crawl, eyes bleed and brain explode with disgrace. I mean, he's an okay actor, but he's no Nathan Drake.

So, I took it upon myself to draw up my dream cast for an Uncharted movie. Here's what I came up with...

Film Review: Snowpiercer

"What killed the dinosaurs?! The Ice Age!"

Thankfully, this is one film centred on a snowy premise which is completely devoid of ice puns. Snowpiercer is a dystopic sci-fi film from Korean director Byung-hun Lee - it stars Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton and John Hurt.

60 Second Film Reviews #13

Quick movie reviews, without the waffle. 60 Second Film Reviews is a regular feature where I compile together brief reviews of recent films I've watched at home or at the movies - and generally couldn't be arsed didn't find time to write a proper review for.

This month, I watched 300: Rise of an EmpireUnder the Skin, Friends with Benefits and Pitch Perfect.

Film Review: Begin Again

Begin Again is a musical dramedy from writer/director John Carney - it tells the story of two down-on-their luck strangers, Dan (Mark Ruffalo) and Gretta (Keira Knightley), who decide to help each other turn their luck around by making music on the streets of New York.

Rank the Films: Marvel Cinematic Universe

As any regular reader of this blog will know, lists are pretty darn nifty. I have a profound appreciation for straight-up lists. This is the thinking behind Rank the Films, a regular feature that pulls apart the pros and cons of a series of films, ranking them in order of bad to good.

This month, I revisit the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ranking the 10 (count 'em!) films the studio has put out to date, from 2008's Iron Man to 2012's The Avengers and newest kid off the block, Guardians of the Galaxy. I originally ranked the MCU films in April last year, and wanted to do so again to include the four most recent movies - they sure to pump them out!

What'll come out on top? Well, read on...

2014 Blockbusters: Winners and Losers

Now that "blockbuster season" is starting to wind down for another year, I figured it was a good time to sit back and assess the winners and losers from what has been a thoroughly captivating season of mainstream, big-budget cinema (for the most part anyway).

What films and studios saw their stock rise over the past few months? And who had a nightmare 2014? Check out my thoughts below!

Webslinger Woes (VOR #22)

Ahh, the Spider-man franchise. Mirroring the titular web-slinger himself, the fortunes of this property are swinging back and forth rather rapidly. Barely a day goes by without a new report on the future Sony has in store for Spidey, only for them to be quickly countered by something equally absurd.

Unlike Spidey however, the crew over at Sony are really struggling to make anything stick. When it comes to the Spider-man film franchise, they've been left well and truly scratching their heads. So, the question of everyone's lips; what now?

Film Review: Lucy

Lucy is the latest mid-budget action movie from French director Luc Besson - it sees Scarlett Johansson play someone who develops the ability to unlock 100% of her cerebral capacity, thus pushing the boundaries of what is humanly possible. But, is she losing what makes her human in the process?
